Vocab: Weekly Activities

Create a document called 'Weekly Vocab: Your Name', save it on OneDrive & share it with me. You will add to this document every week.

Once we have gone through the words, do the activities below (in order). Put the answers in your word document. For each word:

1. Re-write the definition in your own words.

2. Draw a picture or a symbol, or copy & paste an image that represents each word

3. For each word, do a different one of the following:

  • Use the word in a sentence
  • Write down a synonym and an antonym of the word (what it is and what it isn’t)
  • Write down the etymology/word roots
  • Write down any prefixes/suffixes in this word and what they mean
  • Find a word that rhymes (must have same number of syllables)
  • Create an analogy (compare it to something e.g. mercy is like sunshine because...)
  • Make an acrostic poem using the letters of this word OR write a haiku that includes it
  • Write a very short (1-2 sentence) story that uses this word.
  • Connect this word to another word on the list (relating to the MEANING not letters/sounds)
  • Think of an example from your own life
  • Change it into a different part of speech e.g. if it’s a noun, make it a verb or an adjective

4. Share with a friend

  • Choose one of your words & talk to your neighbour about it. You could explain what picture you chose and why OR share one of your activities from question 3.
  • Then listen to theirs.
  • Write down a brief explanation of the other person’s sharing.

5. Games
