Term 4
Term 4 Vocab: Allusions

An allusion is a reference. When you briefly mention a well-known story, person or event that the audience will recognise as an example, without going into detail, you are making an allusion. Allusions can be references to:

  • Literature – books, plays, or fairy tales
  • Myths and legends – ancient Greek or Roman gods & heroes
  • Historical figures – famous people
  • Well-known known stories or characters from the Bible
  • Popular culture – TV shows, memes, songs, viral videos etc

Here are the weekly lists of allusions. For the test you need to remember the spelling, meaning, and origin of each allusion.
